An homage to The Book
The Book
Is the most powerful object
of our time
~ Keith Houston
In Keith Houston’s introduction to his book about books he writes:
After more than a thousand years as the world’s most important form of written record, the book as we know it faces an unknown future ... computers and electronic books threaten the very existence of the physical book.
Since 2016, when Houston’s book was first published, computer technology has actually given the printed book a surge of energy. High quality digital printing has emerged, allowing us to print everything from novels to coffee table style art books one copy at a time. Good for the book. Good for us! Now we can print more unique books than ever before.
Books are
Humanity in Print
~ Barbara W Tuchman
A book
is like
a garden carried in the pocket
~ Chinese Proverb
Outside of a dog,
a book is man’s best friend.
Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read.
~ Groucho Marx
Many people, other than the authors,
contribute to the making of a book,
from the first person who had the
bright idea of alphabetic writing through
the inventor of movable type to the
lumberjacks who felled the trees
that were pulped for its printing.
It is not customary to acknowledge
the trees themselves, though their
commitment is total.
~ Forsyth and Rada, Machine Learning
… Love and friendship and humour
and ships at sea by night
- there’s all heaven and earth in
a book, a real book.
~ Christopher Morley
With BookCreate my goal is to make physical books, real books:
Books with a beginning a middle and an end, formed with a front cover, a spine and a back cover.
Perhaps a book with your story inside, a beautiful keepsake that will look good on your coffee table.
Let’s discuss,
